Birth
Vitumbiko was born on 28 May 1983 at Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Blantyre to Augeans Y.S. Mumba and Chrissie Phiri. His parents are both retired secondary school and primary school teachers respectively. He has two siblings namely Kondwani and Tiyamike. By the time he was born, his parents were staying in Chikwawa as his father was teaching at Chikwawa Secondary School.
Primary Education
In 1987, his father was transferred to Likuni Girls Secondary School in Lilongwe where they stayed until 1989. In November 1988 Vitumbiko started his primary school education at Likuni Boys Primary School in the same city. In 1989, there was a national call for all teachers from the northern region of Malawi to go back to the northern region. This was a directive from the then State President Dr. Kamuzu Banda dubbed “kwanu nkwanu”. His parents then moved to Ekwendeni Girls Secondary School in 1989 in the northern region district of Mzimba.
Vitumbiko continued his primary school at Ekwendeni Primary School and sat for the Primary School Leavers Certificate Examinations (PSLCE) in 1996. He passed but was not selected to go to Secondary School. After sitting for examinations under Synod of Livingstonia, he passed and was then selected to a church owned secondary school called Robert Laws Secondary School (Rolass).
Secondary School Education
In 1997 he started his secondary school education at Rolass until 1999 when the school was closed because of a student-led strike. He then went to Phwezi Boys Secondary School in Rumphi District where he did his Form 4 and sat for Malawi School Leavers Certificate in 2000. At Phwezi he made strong friendships that have lasted to date with Chiphunile Kachiwala, Kachulu Kaonga, Chimwemwe Mitengo, Goodrich Mughogho, Malani Nyirenda and Fally Nsombo Nkhwazi. He passed with 15 points and was selected to go and study Civil Engineering at The Polytechnic, University of Malawi in Blantyre.
Tertiary Education
In 2001 Vitumbiko started his first year at The Polytechnic, a constituent college under the University of Malawi, where he pursued his Bachelor of Science Degree in Civil Engineering. He completed in December 2006 and graduated in February 2007.
Currently Vitumbiko is has a Masters Degree in Business Administration (MBA) from the University of Stellenbosch in Cape Town, South Africa.
Family
Vitumbiko got married to Grace Mumba (nee Zintambira) on 26 December 2009 at a colourful ceremony in Lilongwe. Together they have three children, two sons namely Dumisani (5 September 2011) and Chisomo (8 September 2013) and one daughter Dineo Mumba (6 March 2018). In addition, They have their niece, Sithembile Mumba, and nephew, Bright Katopola.
Vitumbiko went to work in Botswana in February 2009 and Grace joined him soon after marrying later the same year. They initially lived in Lethlakane and then moved to Francistown where Dumisani was born. In 2012 they moved to Gaborone where Chisomo was born. In December 2013, they relocated to Windhoek, Namibia where they stayed until March 2016 when Vitumbiko resigned to return to Lilongwe, Malawi, where they live currently and are engaged in self-employment. They plan to relocate to Mzuzu in the near future.

- Reading biographies of Pan-Africans
